Driver charged with DUI, other crimes for fatal crash
A 79-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a fatal car accident on Bristol Ferry Road in Florida. The man's family may consider filing a wrongful death suit in connection with the incident, which occurred on June 12 and involved three different vehicles. The driver in the crash has been charged with DUI, along with death resulting from DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. The man refused to take a breathalyzer test after the collision.
Authorities report that a Ford pickup truck lost control and crossed the centerline on Bristol Ferry Road. The truck struck the decedent's 2005 Lexus before plowing into another F-150 driven by a 26-year-old man. All three drivers involved in the collision were transported to local hospital facilities. The older man died shortly after arrival, and the other drivers were treated and then released.
Official reports show that the driver in the case had the aroma of alcohol on his breath when he was arrested after the crash. When given the opportunity to take a chemical test at the hospital, the man refused, prompting further criminal charges. That driver was arraigned while at the hospital and released on bail. The next hearing in the case will be held in late June.
The victims in this case should consider seeking the assistance of qualified personal injury attorneys. These professionals could help relatives of the decedent recover civil claim money related to wrongful death. Other claims associated with the case could include pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of consort and funeral costs, among others. The surviving driver could recover money for similar claims, depending on the nature of his injuries. He could be compensated for disfigurement, pain and suffering, along with property damage and other tangibles like medical bills.
If you or a family member has been injured by a drunk driver, a personal injury attorney could help you recover the money you need and deserve.
