Car accident leaves Florida man dead
A Florida man is dead after a serious car accident involving several vehicles. Authorities say the accident started on Route 322, where a stopped car was rear-ended by a pickup truck, causing it to spin and come to a rest on the road. Meanwhile, the pickup truck traveled into road where it collided head-on with a second car. That car then spun and slid into a sign. The driver of a third car attempted to turn right to avoid the accident, but struck the second car, causing both vehicles to slide onto the shoulder.
The 44-year-old driver of the second car, a Florida native, suffered catastrophic injuries in the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The drivers of the first car and the pickup truck sustained light injuries and were taken to a nearby medical center for treatment. The driver of the third car is uninjured.
Police charged the driver of the truck with following too closely. No additional charges have been filed, but the police investigation is ongoing.
The stretch of road where the crash occurred is notorious for causing fatal wrecks, earning the nickname "Suicide Alley" among truckers that frequent the area. The road has been criticized for poor lighting and signage despite promises from government officials to fix the dangerous design.
As this tragic incident clearly shows, negligent driving poses a threat to all motorists and should be taken seriously. Hopefully this accident and others like it will serve as somber reminders to motorist across the state of Florida of the dangers of unsafe driving.
