Indiana teens injured in parasailing crash

A horrifying premises liability accident in Florida has landed two out-of-state teens in the hospital and left their parents questioning the safety of their vacation. The pair of teens remain in critical condition in a Florida medical facility after they were dragged through power lines, smashed into a building and plowed into a row of parked cars during their parasailing experience. While the incident is being called a "freak accident," parents are questioning the parasailing company's decision to take their daughters out in bad weather conditions.

Official reports show that both girls suffered head trauma and cuts. One of the girl experienced back injuries, while the other's neck was harmed. It appears that the 17-year-old girls from Roanoke, Indiana, are recovering well after a series of surgeries, but they are not out of the woods yet.

An initial investigation from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows that the line connecting the girls' sail snapped because of high wind conditions, sending them careening into the stationary structures that caused serious injuries. This is not the first incident in which a client of the Aquatic Adventures company has been injured. In 2010, a woman received $650,000 after she was run over by a jet ski provided by the group. Another parasailing incident in 2009 occurred when the line snapped in bad weather conditions.

Initial investigation suggests that the company employees were so concerned with receiving a commission that they ignored safety protocol. The company has not yet commented on the injurious accident.

Even though this accident did not happen on the physical property of a company, it did occur while the clients were under the care of the recreational providers. In this case, the teens and their families may be able to recover financial damages to pay for tangible items such as medical bills. Also included in such a civil suit: claims for pain and suffering, emotional distress, disfigurement and a variety of other factors, depending on the nature of the girl's injuries. A qualified personal injury attorney can help them learn more about their options and rights.
